Nutritional Facts

The evaluations and analyses done to the maca hypocotyls (root) has established that it is an extraordinary food and a great source of amino acids, proteins, complex carbohydrates, vitamins, minerals and essential nutrients.

Amino acids

These are the main constitutive units of the Proteins. Maca has Leucine, Arginine, Phenylalanine, Lysine, Glycine, Alanine, Valine, Isoleucine, Glutamic Acid, Seina, Aspartic Acid and others in less proportion

These are the most abundant compounds in the organism. When a food has proteins with all the essential amino acids, it is said that it has high quality or good quality proteins.

Complex Carbohydrates

These are found in grains and vegetables; simple and complex carbohydrates supply glucose, but complex carbohydrates supply many nutritious advantages such as vitamins, minerals, and fiber that are found in food containing complex carbohydrates

Bioactive Components

Maca has a series of bioactive components such as glucosinolates, sterols, phenolic compounds and fat acids that supply the therapeutic effects.

Glucosinolates: The glucosinolates (group of glucosides that contain sulphur) are anti-carcinogen compounds of plants that provide to the cruciferous vegetables their good reputation as cancer fighters. Maca glucosinolates are benzyl isothiocyanate, p-methoxybenzyle isothiocyanate.

Sterols: These are a large subgroup of compounds similar to the steroids found in plants and animals. Maca has five natural sterols: sitosterol, campesterol, ergosterol, brassicasterol and ergostadienol.
